Spring Cleaning Tips for Success

This spring, give your life a good scrubbing. Sometimes we need to reflect inward before we reflect outward to push forward in our real estate investing. Personal development is just as important as business development when it comes to developing a successful real estate portfolio.

To do this, start your spring cleaning from within.

De-clutter your mind. Life can get pretty busy. It’s very common for us to internalize the chaos. Instead of letting your mind fill up, try keeping a journal, calendar, or even just a to-do list. When you write things down, think of it as pulling the tasks and commitments out of your mind, clearing some headspace to allow you to breathe.

Speaking of breathing, test out yoga. Make 2016 the year you achieve a greater sense of peace and increase your ability to focus. If you really enjoy yoga, you might want to think about doing an online yoga training course to allow you to teach others your new skill! Yoga is so popular nowadays and it’s a great form of exercise. If yoga isn’t for you, but you still want to embrace a brighter and shinier mindset, try writing out gratitude lists. Every day, take the time to write out what you are grateful for, and feel yourself becoming shinier!

Next, take a look at yourself. Bust out the yoga mat, walk the dog, drink 8 cups of water a day you’ve heard it all before, and you’re going to hear it again. If you don’t take care of yourself, you can?t put your best effort into other areas of life.

Recently, some of the REIN Team took on the Aligned30 Challenge with The Difference Engine. This challenge involves finding one area (or several) in your life that is not in alignment and realigning it for 30 days. For most of us, exercise was the component we felt most needed to change. Now three weeks in, those of us who stuck with it feel more alert and focused – leading to a more successful workday.

Now that you?ve cleaned up your headspace, turn your attention to your workspace.

Take a look at your workspace ? be it your desk, your office, your filing cabinet, your email, your laptop, or your local Tim Hortons (okay, maybe not that one). Do you have piles of paper to be sorted, an inbox to purge, or a cluttered desktop? A sorted inbox is a blessing, let me tell you. Maybe it’s the entire office that needs cleaning. In that case, you might be best off finding some Office Cleaning professionals that specialize in helping you feel at ease in a clean working area.

Don’t forget though that there are loads of things that might be distracting you when you are in the office. Things like having dirty windows can make you feel unmotivated to work harder. There’s something about having clean windows to look out of from your desk that can make a big difference in your work ethic. So if your office has dirty windows that are in need of a clean, then make the most of someone like this professional window cleaner in Toronto, who can help clean up the outside of your workspace. Once your entire office is clean (inside and out), you can move on to decluttering your actual workload.

Need some tips for sorting your inbox? It really comes down to personal preference. Try creating “2014” or “2015” folders and transferring all eligible emails to their dated folders. Once you’ve done this, scan the remainder and delete unimportant emails. Rather than do this once a year, consider setting aside 10 minutes at the end of every work week to purge your inbox. Clear inbox, clear mind.

Next, look around you. Who’s a part of your environment? Are you getting what you need out of your relationships? If you haven?t already built the perfect team of professionals, take this time to network. Seek out accountants, realtors, property managers, whoever you need to complete your team.

Are there any upcoming professional conferences you can attend? These are excellent places to meet professionals and complete your team. You can even check out what REIN has coming up by looking at our event calendar.

Finally, polish up your properties. Take the time to ?clean up? by doing some property maintenance. Slap on a new coat of paint, get the carpets cleaned, or the siding pressure washed. Your properties will be cleaner, you?ll be happier, and so will your tenants. Keeping good quality tenants happy can also keep your mind at ease because happy tenants are often long-term tenants.

And there you have it! Complete these five tasks and you’ll be building your real estate portfolio from a cleaner space, internally and externally.
