2015 Rookie of the Year
The Rookie of the Year award goes to the investor who has joined REIN within the last 17 months and has created a sizable and sustainable portfolio within that time. This Member has also proven to embody the REIN spirit by giving back to their community by helping others.
BRUNO JURY BC
Bruno Jury has been a REIN Member since June 2015 and recently earned his 2nd Property pin. He enjoys going to REIN meetings as they provide him with an opportunity to expand his network, learn new things, and stay motivated. In his words, REIN is an amazing way to get started and motivated in the not-so-simple real estate investment world.
His first property acquisition was not a simple one he bought a townhome that was a foreclosure:
I had to submit my bid, sit in court in front of a judge and learn that my offer was good enough to beat four other bidders on the same property, and was still at least 15% lower than the real market value. By the completion date, just two weeks after the adjudication, I had all my renovation team lined up to do the work as fast as possible. I received the keys for the property on July 19th. After two and a half weeks of really hard work that I could only do on evenings and weekends, my wonderful team of contractors managed to complete the renovation within budget. Then, on August 5th, I was taking the photos and uploading them on Craigslist to create my very first marketing campaign to announce my property. The response was overwhelming; I had booked 12 appointments to see the apartment in the first 24 hours! To my surprise, the tenants started to bid more for the property. They said they liked it so much that they were willing to offer more monthly rent and I received 10% more than I asked for and expected!
MATT YESMANISKI Alberta North
Matt joined REIN in February 2015 and has earned his Silver Pin award. He lives and invests in Grande Prairie (and the surrounding area). At only 29 years old, he already has a portfolio of 11 properties, all of which were acquired in 2015. In 2013, he purchased a full side-by-side duplex with a JV partner. In the fall of 2014, he purchased a four-plex and another side-by-side duplex (using the equity from the 2013 purchases). He is honored to be able to steward this JVs money and real estate decisions that will have a direct impact on their families legacy.
Matt is committed to excellence and is a great team player who wants the best for everyone. He hopes his companys story and hallway conversations inspire others to take control of their financial future and start to create tomorrows legacies today. He regularly takes what is being taught on stage and applies it to his real estate and entrepreneurship.
RENEE HUSE AB South
A Silver Pin award winner, Renee joined REIN in August 2014. She originally invested in single family homes in Calgary but now specializes in suited houses in Spruce Grove. Renee bought five doors in the first half of 2015 with great tenants and minimal management demands. Shortly afterwards, she set up a corporation, prepared to build 10 suited homes (20 doors) under it, and sold shares to her investors. Five out of the 10 homes are now built and 100% leased up (9 out of 10 of them were leased prior to possession).
She also is a partner (with Jerry Charlton) in Financing 50, a Rent-to-Own business. With one successful deal under their belt, Renee has learned a tremendous amount about evaluating clients, creating a website, advertising, meeting potential RTO owners, and setting up legal documents.
Renee is grateful for all the REIN Members that have welcome her to their tables, shared their successes and failures, and helped with advice on building her team. She has worked hard to network and believes strongly in sharing strategies. Renee regularly passes along information to colleagues that she meets in the community. She shared her Rent-to-Own story at REINs Rapid Cash event, and enjoyed the opportunity to give back.
TOM SULLIVAN Ontario
Tom joined REIN in April of 2015 and he earned his Bronze Pin. The knowledge and philosophy taught by REIN has provided him with the confidence to break through many barriers and obstacles and allowed him to build an ever expanding supportive network. He attends all REIN events and is actively dispenses information and tips to fellow investors.
In 2015 Tom has purchased three Buy and Hold legal multi-unit properties, and two JVs, completed two financing agreements, refinanced one property, and carried out one HELOC expansion. He helped five others go through the process of opening up a HELOC.
He has been named Investor of the Month by Smart Home Choice and was featured in their newsletter and on their website. Tom has also been invited to share his experience with other new investors at a number of different meet-ups.
