Geoff Pratt: Getting Started at 60
By Geoff Pratt
“In 2008, my wife Janey and I lost a third of our net worth. We were invested mostly in equities, under professional management.
I was 60 years old at the time and extremely worried that I would not be able to earn back the losses before retirement.
We were looking for investments that were less volatile, and could be more under our personal control; investments that would grow over time with reasonable risk.
A young patient of mine, along with her boyfriend, had two income properties. She wrote s name on a piece of paper, and gave Don a strong recommendation.
On the way home from work that day, I stopped at the bookstore and bought “Real Estate Investing in Canada” authored by Don. I loved it! This book was loaded with great information, and I read it twice in three days!
Soon after I attended a ‘Quick Start boot camp workshop, and realized that real estate was the best long term strategy for us. We began a family real estate venture with our children and their spouses. The goal was to provide a long term legacy for our grand children and their children.
REIN has provided us with a tremendous amount of information and support in helping us build our dream.”
