My Journey: REIA Donal Ward-McCarthy
Donals journey into real estate began in 1998! Being an only child raised by a single parent, he was left a very modest real estate portfolio when his mother passed away after a long battle with terminal illness (A principle residence and a damp, run down 200 year old cluster of stones some called a cottage).
Donal was 22, had just graduated from university and was working as an electronics engineer in a city other than the inherited homes. The question arose: should he sell the properties or fix them up and rent them? Choosing the latter catapulted Donal into a world hed never dreamed of and gave him a perspective which altered the course of his life to this day.
A light bulb went off initially which made him ponder: how many mortgage-free rental properties did one need to sustain ones life style from passive income generation?
This answer led Donal to travel and ultimately end up in Toronto! Today, living downtown with his wife and 5 month old boy, Donal has properties in both Alberta and Ontario and is a licensed full time realtor.
